Analysis: Though Sermon was recently activated from injured reserve, he's the odd man out Sunday, with Elijah Mitchell, JaMycal Hasty and Jeff Wilson available to handle the 49ers' backfield duties in the team's playoff opener.
Trey Sermon Comes off IR
The 49ers activated Sermon (ankle) from injured reserve Tuesday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: The 49ers needed to make this move by Tuesday, or else Sermon's 21-day practice window would have closed, and he would have remained on IR for the rest of the team's playoff run. Assuming all of Elijah Mitchell (knee), JaMycal Hasty and Jeff Wilson are available for Sunday's wild-card game at Dallas, there's a good chance Sermon is a healthy scratch. And that's also assuming Sermon heads into the weekend without an injury designation.
