Allen Lazard Gets second-round tender

Lazard, a restricted free agent, is getting a second-round tender from the Packers, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: Lazard made some noise late last season and ultimately finished with career highs for catches (40), receiving yards (513) and touchdowns (eight), but there's no way any team will give up a second-round pick for the right to sign him. He thus figures to stay in Green Bay, while Marquez Valdes-Scantling faces an uncertain future as an unrestricted free agent. That doesn't mean Lazard will be handed the No. 2 receiver job, but it's well within the range of possible outcomes for his Week 1 role. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is officially signed, while top wideout Davante Adams has four months to work out a multi-year contract before the July 15 deadline for franchise-tagged players.

Allen Lazard Disappointing conclusion to season

Lazard brought in his only target for six yards during the Packers' 13-10 loss to the 49ers in their NFC divisional-round matchup Saturday night.

Analysis: Lazard came into the contest with some expectation of a possible bump in downfield targets with Marquez Valdes-Scantling (back) sidelined, but those never materialized in the disappointing end to what had seemed like a potential championship season for the Packers. The fourth-year pro did enjoy a serviceable regular season, establishing new career highs in receptions (40), receiving yards (513) and touchdowns (eight) across 15 games. Lazard will be a restricted free agent come the start of the new league year, and it remains to be seen what level of qualifying offer, assuming there is one, Green Bay will extend to the 26-year-old.
