James Washington Going home to Texas
The Cowboys and Washington agreed to a one-year contract Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: A second-round pick in 2018, Washington wasn't able to make much headway in a stacked Steelers receiving corps in four campaigns with the team, topping out at 44 catches (2019), 735 yards (2019) and five touchdowns (2020) in any given year. The Texas native will be stuck behind CeeDee Lamb and eventually Michael Gallup once the latter is recovered from a torn ACL suffered Week 17 of last season. Until that happens, Washington's competition for WR reps consists of Noah Brown, pending further additions to the group this offseason.
James Washington Off COVID list
Pittsburgh activated Washington (illness) activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday.
Analysis: Washington landed on the list Jan. 8 and didn't play in the the Steelers' regular-season finale against the Ravens, but the wideout will be available for Sunday's playoff opener against Kansas City. While his return bolsters Pittsburgh's wideout depth, Washington's fantasy upside is capped by the fact that Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool and Ray-Ray McCloud also are in the mix. Additionally, JuJu Smith-Schuster (shoulder) has progressed to the point that he's been designated to return from injured reserve, which gives him a chance to return to the lineup Sunday.
