The Bengals re-signed Allen to a one-year contract Thursday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Allen will return for a third straight season as the top backup to Joe Burrow (knee). The 29-year-old was reportedly Cincinnati's top choice for the No. 2 spot during the 2022 season, likely due to his familiarity with coach Zac Taylor's system.
Brandon Allen Scheduled for free agency
Allen completed 17 of 34 pass attempts for 149 yards and two touchdowns across six appearances in 2021.
Analysis: Allen also logged seven carries for minus-1 yards and committed one fumble. The bulk of his NFL action this season came Week 18 at Cleveland, a spot start in which Cincinnati lost 21-16 to close out the regular season. Now scheduled for free agency after the conclusion of the postseason, Allen may have to search for his next backup role elsewhere.
