Michael Soroka Avoids arbitration

Soroka (forearm) agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with the White Sox on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Analysis: Soroka was traded from Atlanta to Chicago this offseason, which is a downgrade in overall team context but gives him a much better chance of being a regular member of a big-league rotation. Soroka dealt with forearm inflammation at the end of last season but it was reported in November that he had resumed throwing and felt great.

Michael Soroka Has resumed throwing

Soroka (forearm) said Monday that he has resumed throwing and "feels great," LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis: Soroka finished the 2023 season on the 60-day injured list with right forearm inflammation and missed all of 2021-22 due to consecutive Achilles tears, but he should be able to enjoy a normal offseason and will likely be in the running for an Opening Day rotation spot with the White Sox in 2024. Chicago acquired the 26-year-old right-hander from Atlanta last week as part of a six-player trade.
