Cody Bellinger Pegged for center field

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday in an interview on WFAN Sports Radio that he plans to play Bellinger in center field and Jasson Dominguez in left field this season.

Analysis: The team didn't want to commit to a position for Bellinger when it traded for him last month, but the Yankees have since signed Paul Goldschmidt and have opted to keep Dominguez in left field. Boone did add that he expects Bellinger to move around to other positions at times on days when others fill the designated-hitter spot.

Cody Bellinger Officially declines mutual option

Bellinger declined his end of a $12.5 million mutual option with the Cubs on Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis: This was a no-brainer move for Bellinger, who is certain to be one of the more sought-after hitters on the open market this winter after bouncing back to the tune of a .307/.356/.525 batting line with 26 homers, 97 RBI, 20 stolen bases and 95 runs scored across 130 games with Chicago in 2023. Beyond his offensive upside, the 28-year-old former NL MVP also rates well defensively in center field and can be a fit for a wide range of MLB clubs.
