Mitch Haniger Dealt to Seattle
The Giants traded Haniger (back), Anthony DeSclafani (elbow) and cash to the Mariners on Friday in exchange for Robbie Ray (elbow), Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Haniger is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he slashed .209/.266/.365 -- easily his worst season at the plate -- and missed most of the year due to oblique, forearm and back injuries. However, Haniger maintained an .817 OPS during five years with the Mariners prior to joining the Giants, and the familiar scenery could spark a return to form for the 33-year-old. Haniger will make $20 million this season and holds a $15.5 million player option for 2025.
Mitch Haniger Shut down with back strain
The Giants placed Haniger on the 10-day injured list Friday with a lower back strain, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: It's an early shutdown for Haniger, who appeared in only 61 games this season while slashing .209/.266/.365 with six home runs and 28 RBI across 229 plate appearances. The 32-year-old outfielder is owed $20 million in 2024 and carries a $15.5 million player option for 2025.
