Walsh signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training.
Analysis: Walsh had a breakout 2021 campaign when he slugged 29 home runs and made the All-Star team. Since then, though, he's managed a lowly .613 OPS and 32.1 percent strikeout rate across 572 plate appearances at the major-league level. The 30-year-old will compete for a reserve role with the Rangers but almost surely will report to Triple-A Round Rock to start 2024 as he looks to get his career back on track.
Jared Walsh Removed from 40-man roster
Walsh cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: It's the second time since early August that Walsh has been outrighted off the Angels' 40-man roster. He will become a free agent after the World Series unless he accepts the outright assignment, which seems unlikely. The 30-year-old posted a lowly .494 OPS over 39 games in 2023 and simply hasn't been the same player since his breakout 2021 season.
