Taveras and the Rangers agreed on a one-year, $2.55 million deal Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Taveras provides strong defense in center field and was almost a league average hitter (98 wRC+) in his age-24 season. He projects to once again hit double-digit homers with double-digit steals while hitting towards the bottom of the Rangers' lineup.
Leody Taveras Moves up to five spot
Taveras has been moved up to the fifth spot in the lineup for Friday's ALCS Game 5 against the Astros.
Analysis: Rangers skipper Bruce Bochy has made a few lineup changes as his team looks to regain the series edge. One of those shifts is moving up Taveras, who is 9-for-28 with one home run and three stolen bases in nine contests this postseason.
