Preston Williams Staying with Dolphins

Williams is re-signing with Miami on a one-year contract, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: Williams is a 2019 UDFA who started seven of eight games as a rookie (32-428-3 on 60 targets) before suffering an ACL tear midway through the season. He then started seven of eight games again in 2020 -- albeit with lesser numbers (18-288-4) -- before suffering a season-ending foot injury. In 2021, Williams again played only eight games (three starts), but on account of smaller injuries and a few healthy scratches. After finishing last season with six catches for 71 yards, the soon-to-be 25-year-old wideout figures to compete for a depth role in 2022. Jaylen Waddle, DeVante Parker and recent free-agent signing Cedrick Wilson are Miami's projected starters at wide receiver.

Preston Williams Silent end to quiet season

Williams (coach's decision) was inactive for Miami's win over the Patriots in Week 18.

Analysis: Williams only suited up for eight games in 2021, as he was often a healthy scratch. In those appearances, he secured just six of 16 targets for 71 yards. The 24-year-old once looked like an ascending young talent for the Dolphins, and potentially a locked-in starter, but since bursting onto the scene as a rookie in 2019 he's found himself steadily being eased out of the picture. Williams will be a restricted free agent this offseason.
