Devin Singletary Competition cooking
The Bills drafted James Cook out of Georgia in the second round of the NFL Draft, and the rookie presumably will compete with Singletary and Zack Moss for playing time in 2022.
Analysis: Singletary ended the 2021 season on a tear, scoring nine touchdowns over the team's last six games (three regular season, three playoffs) while surpassing 80 rushing yards in four of them. However, the Bills mostly have run a committee system during coach Sean McDermott's tenure, and with Moss being a shaky option and Singletary being limited to one very nice hot streak in a three-year career, Cook now will fill out the room. While we imagine the No. 1 job in the committee is Singletary's to lose, the Bills didn't use a second-round pick on a benchwarmer. Expect the rookie to start chipping in on Singletary's workload right away, and Cook could even leapfrog Moss in short order for the No. 2 role.
Devin Singletary Pair of scores in wild-card win
Singletary rushed 16 times for 81 yards and two touchdowns and brought in three of four targets for 13 yards during the Bills' 47-17 win over the Patriots in an AFC wild-card matchup Saturday night.
Analysis: Josh Allen stole the show with 374 total yards and five scores in the blowout win, but Singletary capped off the other two of Buffalo's record-setting seven consecutive touchdown drives with a pair of visits to the end zone of his own. The third-year pro averaged an impressive 5.1 yards per carry, and his second scoring jaunt, a 16-yarder late in the second quarter, served as his longest run of the night. Singletary has proven to be an ideal complementary component to Allen's work through the air and has proven capable of handling a true lead-back workload with double-digit carries in five consecutive games going back to Week 15. The 24-year-old should play another key role in next weekend's divisional-round matchup against either the Chiefs or Bengals.
