Justin Turner Gets one-year deal from Blue Jays

Turner signed a one-year, $13 million contract with the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.

Analysis: He can earn an additional $1.5 million in roster and performance bonuses. Turner is expected to be Toronto's primary designated hitter in 2024 while also providing the Jays with an option at third base and first base. Most importantly, he will give the team some more thump in the middle of its lineup. The 39-year-old slashed .276/.345/.455 with 23 home runs and 96 RBI last season with Boston.

Justin Turner Declines player option

Turner declined his $13.4 million player option for 2024 on Friday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Analysis: Turner will become a free agent and receive a $6.7 million buyout for declining his option. After belting 23 homers and a career-high 96 RBI in 2023, the 38-year-old veteran should have little trouble finding a team willing to offer him a contract similar to the $8.3 million deal he signed last offseason.
