Sean Mannion Back in Minnesota

The Vikings re-signed Mannion on Tuesday, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Analysis: Mannion, who started one game for the Vikings last season, now returns to the team to provide competition for the backup gig behind Kirk Cousins. That said, 2021 third-round pick Kellen Mond would appear the likeliest candidate to hold the No. 2 role Week 1, even if no more names are added to the quarterback room.

Sean Mannion Draws one start in 2021

Mannion started his only appearance for the Vikings during the 2021 campaign.

Analysis: With Kirk Cousins on the COVID-19 list, Mannion drew the start -- his only appearance of the season -- for the Vikings in Week 17. He completed 22 of his 36 passes for 189 yards and one touchdown during the 37-10 loss to the Packers. He also added two rushing attempts for 14 yards. The 29-year-old is set to become a free agent this offseason, and rookie third-round pick Kellen Mond is expected to step into the primary backup role to Kirk Cousins next year, so it's unlikely that Mannion re-signs with the Vikings.
