Montgomery is signing a two-year deal with the Patriots, independent NFL reporter Dov Kleiman reports.
Analysis: Montgomery may provide depth behind passing-down back James White, who was re-signed earlier this week, or he could see more of his work at wide receiver. Either way, the versatile 29-year-old isn't likely to have a big role, with any fantasy value likely requiring injuries ahead of him.
Ty Montgomery Logs 31 touches in 2021
Montgomery rushed 15 times for 44 yards while catching 16 of 26 targets for 95 yards over 14 games in 2021.
Analysis: Even when Michael Thomas (ankle) and Tre'Quan Smith missed time at wide receiver or when Alvin Kamara skipped four games at running back, Montgomery rarely handled a significant offensive role. The lone exception was a Week 12 matchup with Buffalo, when the 29-year-old rushed six times for 14 yards while catching five of seven targets for 31 yards. Montgomery will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the league year, and it's uncertain whether New Orleans will bring him back for another season.
